The Walt Disney World Speedway is bringing the world of Disney/Pixar’s Cars to life in a new junior ride-along program.
Pixar Animation Studios and Petty Holdings, LLC have announced that Aiken Axler and Sage VanDerSpin from Cars will be featured as two full-size custom characters cars at the Speedway. Richard Petty was the voice of The King in the Cars.
The custom cars have been created by Cars creative director Jay Ward and will be put in the Richard Petty Driving Experience lineup starting June 14 (which incidentally is also Car Masters Weekend at the Walt Disney World Resort).
The #28 Aiken Axler and #80 Sage VanDerSpin will be part of the new Piston Cup Junior Ride-Along program, and for $59 kids ages 6-13 (who are at least 48 inches tall) can experience racing as they ride shotgun with a professional driving instructor for three laps.
Both cars will feature their race team colors – VanDerSpin races for Team “Gask-its” and is the youngest winner of the Junior Piston Cup Pro Series, while Axler capture the Vitoline Rookie of the Year award.
The cars will feature special window wrap, bringing their Cars persona to life. The cars have also been specially designed to ensure the safety of the kids with full containment racing seats featuring built-in shoulder and head protection and a five-point harness.
Junior ride-alongs don’t require reservations and are given on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information visit Drivepetty.com.
