The latest live-action adaptation of a classic Disney animated film, Cinderella, will arrive in theaters in the spring of 2015.
The film, directed by Academy Award nominee Kenneth Branagh (Thor, Hamlet), tells the story of Ella played by Lily James (Downton Abbey). After her mother’s death Ella’s father remarries and Ella must welcome her stepmother and stepsisters into the family home.
Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) plays the evil stepmother who eventually relegates Ella into a servant girl after Ella’s father dies. Ella is determined to honor her mother’s dying words to “have courage and be kind” despite the cruelty of her stepmother.
The live-action film is inspired by the 1950 animated film and brings to life images from the animated featured including the pumpkin turned into a carriage and of course, the glass slippers.
The film also stars Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as the prince and Academy Award nominee Helena Bonham Carter (Alice in Wonderland) as the Fairy Godmother.
Cinderella is a Walt Disney Studios production and will be in theaters on March 13, 2015.
