Disney On Ice is going to be Frozen.
The Walt Disney Company has announced that the newest Disney On Ice production will be Frozen, based on the Academy Award-winning film.
The new production will feature a cast of nearly 40 performers and will also feature a blizzard created by 20 snow machines, according to Feld Entertainment the company that owns the license for Disney on Ice.
The film was released in November 2013 and has already earned $1.2 billion worldwide, so it’s no surprise that the “on ice” version of the film has been developed so quickly.
Frozen merchandise has been flying off shelves for months, and there is reportedly a Broadway version in the works.
During a phone call to discuss second quarter fiscal profits, Disney’s chairman and CEO Bob Iger told analysts that Disney plans to “take full advantage [of Frozen fever] over the next five years.”
Disney On Ice’s Frozen show will be based on the story of Anna and Elsa, just as the movie was and will include Olaf the wisecracking snowman, Sven the reindeer, and other characters from the film. As with most Disney on Ice productions, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will appear at the beginning and end of the show. T
