Sources have announced that Disney-owned ABC Network will attempt to shut down Dish Network Corp.’s ad-skipping Autohop feature.
ABC seeks a preliminary injunction from U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain, despite the fact that another judge dismissed a similar claim from another broadcaster two weeks ago. The controversy surrounding Dish’s Autohop feature, which allows viewers to automatically skip advertisements during recorded shows instead of manually fast-forwarding, has many broadcasters claiming it “threatens their very survival.”
While a Dish spokesman declined to comment on the impending injunction from ABC, Dish said in court papers that the Autohop “complies with Dish’s bargained-for contractual rights.”
