The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure is closing early next year and will reopen in the summer of 2017 as Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT.
The announcement of the ride update was made at Comic-Con by Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios.
The backstory of the new attraction is that inside his fortress-like collection, The Collector is displaying the Guardians of the Galaxy. They’re all trapped in customized cases but Rocket has escaped and is enlisting the Collector’s VIPs for help.
Guests will board a gantry lift that launches them into a “chaotic and hilarious adventure” as they help Rocket break the Guardians out of captivity.
The structure that house the Tower of Terror will be transformed with new visual effects and new audio – including songs from the film’s hit soundtrack – to bring the Guardians of the Galaxy adventure to life.
Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT is set to open in the summer of 2017.
