Fans of the hit Disney Channel show Phineas and Ferb will soon be able to see their favorite characters on the big screen. Phineas and Ferb will be coming to theaters in a new feature film in the summer of 2013, and it looks like Disney is truly trying to make this movie a big summer hit.
To add to the clout of Phineas and Ferb‘s big screen debut, Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt, who won an Academy Award in 2007 for his screenplay of Little Miss Sunshine, has been hired to pen a draft of the new feature film. An initial script has been written by the show’s creators, Swampy Marsh and Dan Povenmire. And unlike the TV series, the feature film will be a mix of both animation and live action.
The LA Times reports that the film has become a priority for Disney, with the property poised to become Disney’s next big marketing vehicle. The film’s plot has yet to be developed, but set to produce the film is Mandeville Films, who are currently producing the upcoming Disney tent pole film, The Muppets. The show continues to consistently receive high ratings, and as we previously reported, their Disney Channel Original Movie, Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension, became cable’s #1 movie of the year in terms of viewership, so it will be exciting to see the show make the leap to a theatrical release.
The Phineas and Ferb feature film will debut in theaters July 26, 2013.
