Tokyo Disney Resort celebrated its 30th anniversary Monday, kicking off a yearlong celebration that includes special events at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. This year is being called “Happiness Year” in honor of the ongoing celebrations.
The anniversary celebration started with a ceremony at Tokyo Disneyland hosted by Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Joining him were Master of Ceremonies Ayaka Nagai, the 2013 Tokyo Disney Resort Ambassador, Toshio Kagami, Chairman and CEO of Oriental Land Company, a partner of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and Kyoichiro Uenishi, President and COO of Oriental Land Company.
During the celebration, a new parade “Happiness is Here” debuted featuring 13 floats and characters including Goofy, Aladdin and Winnie the Pooh, in addition to Toy Story and Alice in Wonderland characters. This parade will run daily throughout Happiness Year.
Guests who visit the resort this year will be able to enjoy special themed decorations throughout the parks, including “happiness balloons” on Cinderella’s castle and the monorail. Special menus will be featured at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea that include buffet meals and specialty desserts. And, on May 7, Star Tours: The Adventure Continues debuts at Tokyo Disneyland.
Tokyo Disneyland, the first international Disney park, opened to guests on April 15, 1983. Tokyo DisneySea opened in 2001.
