The Walt Disney Company recently announced a $1 million donation to the UNCF (United Negro College Fund), the leading minority scholarship organization.
This donation will help outstanding African American students by giving them the tools they needs to achieve their goals.
The Walt Disney Company UNCF Corporate Scholars Program offers financial assistance to high-achieving African American students in underserved communities.
“Higher education is the key to a successful future, especially in an increasingly knowledge-driven economy,” said Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer, The Walt Disney Company. “Our program with UNCF will provide tools and resources to make college more accessible for promising students in historically underserved communities, so they are prepared and empowered to achieve their career dreams.”
The students chosen for the Scholars Program will be selected based on an application. Preference will be given to students at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to ensure 50 percent of each group is from those schools. Students must have a demonstrated financial need and a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Students chosen for the program must also have an interest in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry.
Additional information on the program can be found at www.uncf.org/disneyscholars. The application process opens March 16 and closes on May 15.
