A new soccer event has been announced for the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in 2015.
The Florida Cup, created by 2SV Sports, will feature world-class soccer matches hosted by Disney Sports and Orlando City SC on January 15, 2015. The matches will be played at Disney and in Jacksonville, Florida.
Four Brazilian and German soccer teams will face each other in The Florida Cup matches. The teams represent the most successful nations from the FIFA World Cup. They will face each other in a double-header at the Wide World of Sports Complex before competition continues in Jacksonville.
The teams are: two-time FIFA World Champion Corinthains (BRA), Champions League club Bayer 04 Leverkusen (GER), four-time Brazilian Champion Fluminense (BRA), and three-time German Champion 1. FC Koln (GER).
“The Florida Cup represents yet another opportunity for soccer fans to experience world-class international soccer at an intimate, family-friendly venue such as ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex,’’ said Disney Sports business manager Patrick Dicks. “This will be international soccer at its best and a fan experience to match.”
The teams are scheduled to arrive for training in January to prepare for the tournament scheduled for January 15. The second double header in Jacksonville will take place on January 17. At the end of the tournament a champion will be named and the points from the games will be used to determine a national champion as well.
