Just when you thought the Star Wars movie news couldn’t get any more exciting than the Episode VII cast announcement a few weeks ago, there’s even bigger news to report.
A stand-alone Star Wars movie is in the works and will be directed by Godzilla director Gareth Edwards.
The as-yet-untitled film is being written by Gary Whitta (Book of Eli) and is scheduled to premiere on December 16, 2016.
Earlier this spring Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger said there were plans to make at least three spinoff Star Wars films, but there is no word on which characters might be the focus of the films.
There is some industry speculation that one of the films might focus on Han Solo and another will focus on bounty hunter Boba Fett.
Meanwhile, Star Wars Episode VII, directed by J.J. Abrams, recently began filming in Abu Dhabi and London. That film hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
