Small Fire Ignites at Disneyland Resort; No Injuries Reported

Disney California Adventure Will Debut Cars Land in 2012

During a small fire that ignited on a construction site behind Disney California Adventure on Wednesday, workers were told to evacuate the site while firefighters worked to put out the blaze.

According to Anaheim Fire Department spokeswoman Maria Sabol, a plastic tarp over steel framework caught fire. At the time, welders were working on the construction site, and sparks from their equipment may have contributed to the fire. Sabol was quick to add that the investigation is still ongoing, however.

Visitors to the park were not impacted by the fire, which began at approximately 3:15 p.m. and was out within 45 minutes, Disneyland Resort spokeswoman Suzi Brown said. Additionally, no one was injured because of the blaze.

The fire began on the construction site where work crews are building Cars Land, which is part of California Adventure’s multimillion dollar overhaul.  The  brand new 12-acre area based on the popular Disney Pixar movie franchise is scheduled to open sometime next year.
