The fourth-annual Rubber Duck Derby was held at Disneyland Wednesday morning. The Derby is an employee fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Tamarah Robb, a guest-services manager in charge of organizing the event, says:
A couple of years ago, the Fantasyland management team thought that it would be fun for the cast members and (it) would be a good fundraiser.
500 rubber ducks were purchased for the race, which took place in the canal surrounding Disneyland’s It’s A Small World attraction. The boats were removed from the canal, and the 15-minute race was held in the morning before the park opened to visitors. Approximately 200 Disney Cast Members stopped by to watch the race.
The first place winner received a trophy with a rubber duck, while other contestants who placed in various categories – such as “Most Creative” and “Best Villain,” – also received trophies.
After expenses, a total of $1,700 was raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
