When it was announced back in February that the Richard Petty Driving Experience was closing, guests were told the last day would be in June.
Now, the closing date has officially been announced as August 9 extending the chance for guests to take a spin around the Walt Disney World Speedway through the summer.
The final day of the Richard Petty Driving Experience and the Exotic Driving Experience will end with a charity ride in collaboration with Give Kids the World. The last ride at the Mickyard will be auctioned off and the proceeds will benefit the nonprofit.
The area occupied by the Walt Disney World Speedway will be used for “transportation improvements” although Disney has not yet announced what those improvements will be.
The Speedway employs about 70 people, 12 of whom are full-time. Some will reported by relocated to the Daytona Speedway while others will be transferred to other positions at Walt Disney World Resort.
