Production has started on the first original movie for Disney Junior and it’s a musical, animated adventure at sea.
Lucky Duck stars the voices of Christian Borle and Megan Hilty, stars of the now-cancelled NBC musical-drama series Smash. Tom Cavanaugh (Royal Pains) also lends his voice talents to the animated film.
The movies follows the adventures of a rubber duck named Lucky who is accidentally tossed off a cargo ship and then sets off on a search for the perfect home. During his travels he teams up with a group of misfit bathtub toys including a hippo named Flo (voiced by Hilty) and an apprehensive turtle named Snap (voiced by Cavanaugh).
“We’re eager to introduce young kids and their parents to our first Disney Junior Original Movie, an exciting adventure with a heart-warming message about never giving up, despite all odds,” said Joe D’Ambrosia, Vice President, Original Programming, Disney Junior. “We hope that this new TV movie format will create an even stronger family viewing destination to further deliver on our brand promise of imaginative characters and storytelling with heart.”
Lucky Duck is set to premiere in the summer of 2014 on Disney Junior in the United States, and then on Disney Junior channels around the world.
