Principal photograph has started on Star Wars: Episode VIII, about a month later than initially expected.
The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and continues the story from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. J.J. Abrams, the director of The Force Awakens, is serving as an executive producer on the film.
Cast members for Episode VIII include Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwedonline Christies, and Andy Serkis.
New cast members include Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran.
It has been rumored for some time that Benicio Del Toro was playing a “villainous” role in the new Star Wars films, but there is no word yet on who he might be. Likewise no one knows for certain who Laura Dern is playing, but some are speculating that she could be Rey’s mother.
Star Wars: Episode VIII opens December 17, 2017. Fans who can’t wait that long for another Star Wars film can see Star Wars: Rogue One, the stand-alone film, when it arrives in theaters on December 16, 2016.
