Fans have been eagerly awaiting news of Guillermo del Toro’s hotly-anticipated re-make of Haunted Mansion, which was announced back in 2010. Since then, little information has come through the pipeline, leaving many to assume the project was dead.
Based on an interview Collider.com had with del Toro on August 8th, however, it appears the project is still very much alive.
While del Toro is currently in the midst of working on Pacific Rim and isn’t sure what his next project will be, he had this to say about Disney’s Haunted Mansion:
I delivered my last draft [for ‘Haunted Mansion’] five weeks ago. I have a meeting with them in three weeks. I know they like the screenplay. I need to meet with them in three weeks. That’s what I know. I know their reaction to the draft was good. We have a bunch of conceptualist art, but you never know, to predict anything else is hard for me to know.
He also said he’d still “love to make the movie,” but now it’s in the hands of Disney and whether they want to move ahead with the project. While this news isn’t exactly a clear indication that the film will be made, it’s definitely an encouraging update for fans who have been waiting for news.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated when more information becomes available.
