New ‘Lion King’ Exhibit On Display in New York City Through December 16

If you’ve seen a production of The Lion King on stage, you’ve likely been impressed by the awe-inspiring design of the show, from the hand-crafted masks and puppets to the gorgeous set design. Now, Disney has given Disney and theatre fans the chance to see these amazing designs closer than ever before to celebrate The Lion King‘s 15th anniversary on Broadway. From now through December 16th, guests can visit a special pop-up exhibit that celebrates Julie Taymor’s stunning designs for the stage production of The Lion King.

Located across from Bryant Park in New York City at 42nd Street and 6th Avenue, the pop-up exhibit “Inside The Lion King” gives guests the chance to get up close to some of the amazing costumes, puppets, original designs, and more from the hit Broadway show. The exhibit contains 86 different museum-quality artifacts, which include costume pieces, puppets, set and costume models, set pieces, and more. Visitors are encouraged to get up close to these amazing pieces to see their amazing details, and there are plenty of one-of-a-kind photo opportunities with these larger-than-life designs.

In addition to looking at these amazing pieces up close, visitors also learn more about the show’s design from Disney Theatrical Productions representatives, who are on hand throughout the exhibit to explain how different puppets work and some background information about Julie Taymor’s process in designing the show. Interactive touch screens are also available that give even more insight into these amazing works of art.

Of course, visitors to the exhibit don’t necessarily have to leave empty-handed, as Disney is also offering a wide variety of Lion King-themed merchandise at the exhibit, including t-shirts, limited edition ornaments, mugs, plushes, and more.

Disney will also be offering some special workshops at the exhibit that explore different aspects of the show, which include storytelling, choreography, music, and design. More information about the workshops, which will take place December 8, 9, 15, and 16, can be found at www.lionking.com/exhibit.

“Inside The Lion King” will be open daily from now through December 16 from 10:00 AM-8:00 PM.
