Disney’s new My Disney Experience app is now available for download. This new app promises features and technology previously unavailable on any Disney park touring app. Coupled with the new wi-fi availability at the Magic Kingdom, this is another step in the NextGen direction for Disney.
The new app has several features that surpass the abilities of its predecessor, the Mobile Magic app. Using NextGen technology, it provides real-time assessments for wait times at attractions, and also current FASTPASS availability and return times. In addition, the new app will provide wait times for dining options, a new feature that is sure to be popular with families looking for a quick bite to eat.
Another new gadget is the “Here & Now” feature which shows you attractions and events based on your current location inside the parks. You can also use this feature to find the nearest character meet-and-greet locations. It offers detailed maps of all Walt Disney World parks, including Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, Downtown Disney and the resort hotels. The maps offer zoom capabilities, which allow you to “pinch” your way into a more detailed and closer view of the area of interest.
The app also features park hours, parade and show times, and times for fireworks displays. And, for a limited time, Verizon customers will have exclusive access to premium videos and games using their mobile phones.
The app also has a cleaner interface, making it more user-friendly and easier to access while touring the parks. Currently only available in a Walt Disney World version, the app is expected to launch a Disneyland version in 2013. The app is currently available for download at the iTunes store, for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch platforms.
