This past Thursday night, fashion retailers nationwide pulled out all the stops for Fashion’s Night Out, an annual shopping extravaganza featuring special events, freebies, guests, and more for shoppers at stores all around the country. No city celebrated the occasion with more fanfare, however, than New York City, where stores boasted such celebrities as Justin Bieber, Daniel Radcliffe, Lea Michele, and Victoria Beckham, among others. But the night would not have been complete without an appearance from one of the world’s biggest fashion icons, who made a spectacular debut at Fashion’s Night Out: Miss Piggy.
Yes, the one and only Miss Piggy herself was on hand in New York City for fashion retailer Opening Ceremony’s packed Fashion’s Night Out event at the Ace Hotel. Miss Piggy made two appearances throughout the night, where she helped to introduce Opening Ceremony’s new “Opening Ceremony x Muppets” clothing line, as well as promote her upcoming film The Muppets. Looking glamorous in silver heels and a flowing white dress, Miss Piggy greeted her adoring fans and talked with Opening Ceremony founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon about such topics as preparing for Fashion’s Night Out by practicing her wave and air kisses, Kermit the Frog (who, Piggy says, is not a shopper, considering he generally doesn’t wear clothes), and her favorite french foods–which, Miss Piggy made clear, does not include frog legs. When asked about how she was preparing for her role as the editor of French Vogue in The Muppets, Miss Piggy discussed her research for the role, which included meeting with all the top designers in Paris, and “getting them to give [Piggy] one of everything they were making.” And one of the most memorable moments of the night came when an audience member asked what Miss Piggy was wearing, to which she sassily responded, “It’s called a dress. Jeez.”
The new Opening Ceremony x Muppets collection was also on display at the event, which includes t-shirts, button down shirts, sweaters, and sweatshirts featuring some favorite Muppet characters. The full collection will be available for purchase this November.
