Michigan Runners Claim Top Spot in Disney Half Marathon By Brooke Fehr January 12, 2013 in Disney Parks 1 Melissa White is the Winner of the Women’s Division Mike Morgan Crosses the Finish Line Earlier today, Michigan runners Melissa White and Mike Morgan were the first female and male to cross the finish line in the 20th anniversary running of the Disney Marathon Weekend half marathon. White finished the race in just under record time, with a time of 1:14:56, just under two minutes slower than the previous record. But she was happy with her time this early in the season. “I’m just getting started so I wasn’t sure where I was,” said White. “So I just decided to go out there and see what I could do.” Morgan, on the other hand, bested the previous record — but only narrowly. He crossed the finish line at 1:05:26, barely beating the old time of 1:05:35. “I had a goal of getting under the course record. It was a challenge and I barely got under it,” Morgan said. “This was a world-class event, so to come down here and run well is great.” More than 10,000 athletes competing in the half marathon will return to the course tomorrow morning to complete the marathon as well, to capture the medal for the Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge.
