While audiences all over the world are still being wowed by The Avengers in theaters, Marvel Studios is already hard at work on its next film, Iron Man 3. Production on the film, which will be Marvel’s second film that is fully owned, marketed, and distributed by Disney, recently began in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Today, Marvel released the first image from the film’s production, which features Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) standing in front of a collection of various suits of armor worn by Stark in his role as Iron Man. The new film will continue the adventures of Stark, the billionaire inventor, and his superhero identity, Iron Man. Returning with Downey Jr. for the film will be Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan.
In addition to its current production schedule in Wilmington, Iron Man 3 will also be filming in Raleigh/Durham, NC, Miami, FL, and China. The film will be produced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, with Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Charles Newirth, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard and Dan Mintz serving as executive producers.
Iron Man 3 will debut in theaters on May 3, 2013.
