Best-selling children’s author, actress and singer Julie Andrews has announced a collaboration with Target and The Walt Disney Company to introduce the first annual National Princess Week, which will launch April 22, 2012.
In support of Andrews’s dedication to “nurturing every child’s unique spirit,” National Princess Week will be dedicated to celebrating the imaginations and beautiful spirit of every princess – be it real or imagined. Says Andrews:
So many children fall in love with the whimsical wonder of princesses and all the goodness that they represent. Joining Target and Disney to host this annual event nationally will help us to recognize and celebrate the uniqueness that lies within every child.
To help promote the event, the first annual National Princess Week will coincide with the 10-year anniversary of The Princess Diaries, a film starring Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway. Additionally, both The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement will be available for the first time ever on Disney Blu-ray. Finally, Target and Target.com will help celebrate the event with a variety of Disney Princess merchandise spotlighting classic Disney characters like Snow White, Cinderella and Ariel.
Casey Carl, Target’s senior vice president, seems very excited about this exclusive collaboration, and says that “Julie Andrews is an icon for children who love the magic of fairy princesses… [our] first National Princess Week will give Target’s guests a chance to have a ‘princess experience,’ and take home their favorite princesses and accessories.”
Julie Andrews will also be awarded the Prince Rainier III award for her contributions to motion picture, television and theater arts during the Princess Grace Awards Gala in New York City on November 1.
