This week, Disney and Broadway fans excited for the upcoming Broadway debut of Disney’s Newsies received some exciting news. It was announced that Jeremy Jordan, the show’s star during its run at the Paper Mill Playhouse, will be returning to the show for its Broadway run. Jordan will star as Jack Kelly, the lead role made famous by Christian Bale in the original 1992 film.
Jordan returns to the show after a brief run in the Broadway musical Bonnie & Clyde as Clyde Barrow. The show, featuring music by Frank Wildhorn, closed in December. A rising star on both stage and screen, Jeremy Jordan can also be seen in the film Joyful Noise, which is currently in theaters.
No further casting for the show has been announced. Newsies will feature its original creative team from the show’s run at the Paper Mill Playhouse, including director Jeff Calhoun.
Newsies will begin performances March 15 at the Nederlander Theatre on Broadway, with an official opening date of March 29. The show will have a limited run of 101 performances, with closing night currently scheduled for June 10, 2012. For more information, visit the show’s official website at www.NewsiestheMusical.com.
