This week brought the reveal of one of our first looks at the upcoming Disney film Oz: The Great and Powerful. Thanks to an Italian advertisement for the film, we now have our first look at James Franco in his role as the Great and Powerful Oz himself.
James Franco fan site “James Franco Forever” discovered the advertisement, which features Franco dressed as the legendary wizard, complete with a slightly anguished expression. In the background, we can see a hot air balloon, signifying the wizard’s well-known method of transportation that got him both to, and eventually from, the Land of Oz.
Oz: The Great and Powerful tells the origin story of the iconic Wizard of Oz, a famous illusionist who was forced to flee a traveling circus in a hot air balloon, eventually finding himself in the wondrous Land of Oz. In addition to Franco, this Wizard of Oz prequel will co-star Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Zach Braff and Abigail Breslin.
Oz: The Great and Powerful officially debuts in theaters on March 8, 2013.
