Disney Channel’s newest animated series, Elena of Avalor, premieres July 22 at 7 p.m.
Elena of Avalor is set in the fairytale land of Avalor and tells the story of Elena, a “brave and adventurous teenager” who saves the kingdom from an evil sorceress and must rule as crown princess until she’s old enough to be queen.
The story stars Disney’s first Latin princess and incorporates Latin and Hispanic influences through architecture, traditions, food, and customs. The show’s theme song is performed by Latin Grammy Award winner Gaby Moreno.
In the first episode Elena rescues her sister from creatures based on a Chilean peuchen myth and the episode also introduces spirit animals based on the beliefs of a Mayan tribe in southern Mexico.
The voice cast includes Aimee Carrero as Elena; Jenna Ortega as Princess Isabel; Chris Parnell; Yvette Nichole Brown; and Carlo Alazraqui.
Princess Elena will be welcomed this year at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, and a whole line of merchandise inspired by the show is coming to Disney Stores and other retailers nationwide.
