The AMC theater at Downtown Disney will now offer special “sensory friendly” shows geared towards guests with autism. These special theater experiences will provide more lighting, and allow for more talking and movement by guests during the movie. In addition the typically high movie volume will be reduced to make guests more comfortable with the experience.
The program was initiated at the AMC Columbia Mall 14 theater in Columbia, Maryland, where a request from a parent of an autistic child inspired a screening attended by more than 300 parents and children. In addition to the Downtown Disney theater, several select AMC theaters across the country are hosting sensory-friendly shows.
Upcoming shows at AMC Downtown Disney 24 at Walt Disney World Resort are:
•“Finding Nemo” – September 22
•“Frankenweenie” – October 13
•“Wreck-It Ralph” – November 10
•“Rise of the Guardians” – December 8
All sensory-friendly shows take place at 10 a.m. Dates and films are subject to change.
