In a tragic turn of events, a longtime Disneyland cast member collapsed and died within the amusement park last week.
The man, Philip Doyle of Corona, was 58, but according to Deputy Coroner Larry Esslinger, he died of natural causes. Sources say that Doyle had been previously under the care of a physician for a pre-existing medical condition.
Co-workers became concerned when Doyle, who worked in food services, didn’t return after making a delivery from a kitchen near the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. At 1:18 p.m., paramedics received a phone call and were summoned to treat Doyle in a backstage restroom. According to Maria Sabol, a spokeswoman for the Anaheim Fire Department, his breathing was “very shallow.” He was taken to the hospital, but passed away at 2:16 p.m. that day.
In a statement Disney officials said, “Philip was a longtime member of our Disney family. As we grieve his loss, we also offer our deepest sympathy to Philip’s family, friends and loved ones.”
