Disney cast members are participating in the Marine Corps Reserve’s annual Toys for Tots toy drive, which benefits the children in need across the nation. This year, VoluntEARS are donating more than 30,000 new toys to the Central Florida Toys for Tots headquarters.
Gunnery Sergeant Jose Rodriguez stated that the donation is the largest received to date, and will go far to make the holiday just a little brighter for more than 20,000 underprivileged children in Florida’s Orange and Seminole Counties. Says Rodriguez: “You can’t imagine how many families they affect. If it wasn’t for Disney, believe me, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do every single year.”
In addition to toys, Disney VoluntEARS are donating their time: more than 4,500 hours will be spent by cast members in an effort to assist with sorting and distributing the toys.
Disney has been supporting this worthy cause for more than 60 years. A cause close to Walt Disney’s heart personally, he and his animators actually designed the Toys for Tots logo, which is still in use today.
