Disney Research, headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, are working on new technology that may just do away with touch screens completely: by making your body the touch screen.
According to Disney, next-gen “touch sensor technology” will allow consumers to control electronic devices by touching parts of their body, rather than using a touch screen. The program they’ve created to demonstrate this – dubbed Disney Touche – uses a sensing circuit to monitor how an electrical signal will change when passing through an object that’s touched by a “conductive material,” like a finger. With this technology, Disney believes consumers will be able to control devices like mobile phones and MP3 players without touching a screen, but merely using touch gestures on their own bodies.
