On November 6 and 7, 2012, portions of Disneyland park will be walled off in order for a film crew to work on Disney’s upcoming flick Saving Mr. Banks. The film follows the efforts of Walt Disney as he tries to persuade author P.L. Travers to make a movie based on her character Mary Poppins. Tom Hanks plays Walt Disney, while Emma Thompson will star as P.L. Travers.
While several films and television shows have been filmed at the park before, it has been almost a dozen years since an area of Disneyland has needed to be blocked off for filming. According to Disneyland Resort spokeswoman Suzi Brown, the blockades are necessary for authenticity (the film is set in 1961, six years after Disneyland’s opening date.)
Disneyland has not confirmed which areas of the park will be walled off to guests, but they plan to let guests know on those days which areas are off limits.
Saving Mr. Banks premieres in theaters December 2013.
