Disney set release dates for some of their upcoming films today, including films from Marvel Studios and Pixar Animation Studios. What the upcoming films will be, however, is something that Disney has still yet to reveal.
The first upcoming film announced today will be a currently untitled project from director Henry Selick. Best known for his work as director for the stop-motion animated films Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, and Coraline, Selick signed a long-term contract with Disney and Pixar Animation Studios in 2010 to exclusively produce stop-motion animated films under the Pixar banner. This currently untitled film, which will be released on October 4, 2013, looks to be the first film in this new collaboration.
Speaking of Pixar, a new release date was also set for another currently unannounced Disney/Pixar film. While Pixar Animation Studios has already announced one mystery project that will be released on November 27, 2013, this second untitled project will make its debut in theaters on May 30, 2014. Could this be Toy Story 4, which Tom Hanks and John Lasseter have hinted might be coming, or something completely new?
Finally, Disney announced that Marvel Studios will have two currently untitled releases in summer 2014. The new films will be released on May 16, 2014, and June 27, 2014. It’s possible that these films could be sequels to Captain America or The Avengers, but the projects may also turn out to be spinoffs or films based on smaller Marvel properties.
We can’t wait to see what these mystery films turn out to be, and we hope that Disney won’t make us wait too long before the official announcements. Could these be some of the announcements in store for us at the upcoming D23 Expo? We’ll have to wait and find out!
