As the transformation of Downtown Disney into Disney Springs continues, Disney has released more information on what changes are being made.
Part of the ongoing construction includes the roadways and parking areas at Downtown Disney.
Lake Buena Vista Drive will be expanded from seven lanes to 10 lanes, and two multilevel parking garages are currently being built. The first garage is scheduled to open by the end of this year providing 4,000 parking spots for guests visiting Disney Springs/Downtown Disney.
Two pedestrian bridges are also being constructed – these will lead guests into Disney Springs near the Marketplace entry and the West Side.
The road construction also includes an all-new I-4 interchange giving visitors direct access to the Disney Springs area.
Once the Disney Springs expansion is concluded the area will feature more than 70 themed shopping, dining, and entertainment venues. New additions to the area include Starbucks and the Marketplace Co-Op.
The transformation into Disney Springs is scheduled to be completed in 2016. The first area – The Landing – will open in 2015 with lakefront shopping and dining.
