Earlier today, we were one of the first to report on Disney Pixar’s successful bid to gain a Best Picture nomination for “Toy Story 3.” Following that post, here is a full list of nominations garnered by Disney.
“Toy Story 3” leads the pack with five nominations in some of the most significant categories. In addition to being nominated in the Best Picture Category – one of ten, as the Academy once again broadens the number of nominees for the second consecutive year – the critically acclaimed and commercially successful film also picked up nods for Best Animated Feature, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Song, and achievement in Sound Editing.
Right behind the Disney Pixar darling is Tim Burton’s live-action “Alice in Wonderland,” which picked up three nominations for technical and art excellence: excellence in Art Direction, as well as Costume Design, and Visual Effects.
Rounding out the list with one nomination each are “Tangled” (Best original song for Alan Menken and Glen Slater’s I See the Light); Disney Pixar’s “Day & Night” (Best Animated Short); Disney Marvel’s “Iron Man 2” (outstanding Visual Effects); “Tron: Legacy” (achievement in Sound Editing); and Touchstone Miramax’s “The Tempest” (Costume Design.)
While no actors gained nominations for Disney roles, Helena Bonham Carter, who plays the Red Queen in “Alice in Wonderland,” was nominated for her role in the much-nominated “The King’s Speech.”
The 83rd Academy Awards will be broadcast live on Sunday, February 27 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
