In 2012 and 2013, Disney Cruise Line will be offering cruises out of the Port of Galveston in Texas for the first time ever. This week, the company’s time in Galveston officially began, as the Disney Magic sailed into Galveston yesterday.
The ship was welcomed to Texas with some true southern hospitality, as members of Houston’s Ghostriders equestrian drill team rode nearby as the ship was pulling into port. Disney Cruise Line officials then welcomed local port officials and community leaders onboard the ship for its traditional plaque exchange ceremony. To get into the Texas spirit, the Disney Magic even adorned itself by putting a cowboy hat on the Mickey head adorning the ship’s funnel.
“The city and the Port of Galveston have made the officers and crew members of the Disney Magic feel right at home, and we are so happy to be here,” said Disney Cruise Line Captain Robert Olmer. “With these sailings, families from the central southern U.S. have the opportunity to sail from a port close to their own backyard. While in Galveston, families can enjoy the historic district, beaches, museums and festivals and soak up that famous Southern hospitality.”\
