Disney Junior has announced plans to launch a parent-targeted, kid-friendly programming block that will run interstitially from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Dubbed “Disney Junior Night Light,” the content is produced by Disney Interactive and sponsored by Disney’s parenting blog platform Babble. Says Nancy Kanter, Senior Vice President, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide:
We know that Disney Junior reaches moms as well as our core audience. Our new ‘Disney Junior Night Light’ programming is a nod to those moms, and dads too, who find themselves watching with their child during the later nighttime hours. We partnered with Disney Interactive Family to provide content that parents will appreciate, yet will also feel organic to our young Disney Junior viewers.
The new short-form series that will be available on this late night programming block include DJ Tales, where finger puppets act out classic fairy tales and storybook favorites; Picture This!, where artists and animators create representations of famous Disney characters; and That’s Fresh, a cooking show that shares recipes and tips to help develop healthy meals for kids and their families. Other shorts are in development.
The new short-form programs will debut September 4, and can also be watched on Babble’s YouTube channel and at DisneyJunior.com/Nightlight.
