The inaugural Disney International Youth Netball Tournament is coming to the ESPN Wide World of Sports next year.
The tournament will feature teams from around the world training and competing for a week in October 2014.
In case you’re asking “what is netball?” it’s a popular sport among young women in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. The game is a fast-paced game that is based on jumping, running, throwing, and catching. Seven players are allowed on the court at a time, but each team can have a total of 12 players.
Each player’s position determines where they can move on the court, and the “goal” of the game is to score as many goals as possible from the Goal Circle, a semi-circle area on the goal line. Only two players may score goals – the Goal Attack and the Goal Shooter.
The tournament is being developed by Disney in partnership with Visions in Education a UK-based youth and school tour operator. The tournament expects to host teams from the UK, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Israel, the Caribbean, and Asia.
The Disney International Youth Netball Tournament is scheduled for October 27-31, 2014.
