On Monday, Citigroup analyst Jason Bazinet reported that The Walt Disney Co. could be interested in acquiring Scripps Networks Interactive, the network responsible for Food Network, HGTV, Travel and DIY channels.
While Disney offers plenty of offerings for all types of consumers, with the end of ABC’s Desperate Housewives, Disney seems to be lacking in programming for the female demographic. By acquiring Scripps Networks, Disney could boost their existing cable audience by at least 50%, according to the Citigroup analyst.
Scripps has actually become aquainted with Disney before, when their HGTV channel collaborated with the entertainment giant for My Yard Goes Disney. The Food Network has also aired episodes of shows highlighting the best dishes at Epcot World Showcase.
While Disney has not confirmed or denied whether they are interested in acquiring Scripps, Bazinet believes it would be a smart move for the media giant and could help Disney reach out to female audiences again. We’ll keep you updated when more news becomes available.
