It’s back-to-school season and Walt Disney World cast members recently donated millions of school supplies to students in Central Florida.
The “Monstrous Back-to-School Supply Drive” included donations of nearly 80,000 pens, 100,00 pencils, more than 1 million sheets of paper and other items that will help students make the most of the school year.
The donation of school supplies has been part of Disney’s ongoing support of education since 2003.
“For the past ten years, our generous Cast Members have come together donating millions of school supplies so our children can have the tools to succeed in the classroom,” said Nancy Gidusko, director of community relations for Walt Disney World Resort. “When we invest in our children’s education we invest in the future of our community and Central Florida.”
This year, Disney VoluntEARS are also donating more than 2,000 hours of service to sort and pack the supplies that will be distributed in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, and Polk counties.
Disney continues to support education through other efforts including grants to local school districts, recognition of students through the Disney Dreamers and Doers program, volunteer work. Last year the VoluntEARS donated more than 18,000 hours of service to schools in Central Florida.
