Captain Jack Sparrow is headed to Shanghai Disneyland.
At the March 18 annual meeting of shareholders for The Walt Disney Company, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced plans for the first-ever Pirates-themed land at a Disney Park and a Pirates of the Caribbean attraction for the Shanghai Disney Resort.
“Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most iconic attractions in our parks, and we really couldn’t imagine Shanghai Disneyland without Pirates,” Iger said. “We wanted to create a one-of-a-kind experience that would appeal to our Chinese guests while remaining true to its Disney heritage.”
The area at Shanghai Disneyland will be called Treasure Cove and will feature a new attraction Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure. This e-ticket attraction will utilize new technology and innovation as guests take an adventure with Captain Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones.
The structural work on the Pirates attraction at Shanghai Disneyland has been completed. The resort is scheduled to open at the end of 2015.
No other Disney Park is home to a Pirates-themed land. Pirates of the Caribbean first opened at Disneyland in 1967.
