Since exiting a treatment center for “physical and emotional” issues earlier this year, fans of Demi Lovato have been waiting to see whether she’d return to her role on Disney’s Sonny with a Chance. In an interview with PEOPLE Magazine,Lovato says she will not be returning to the hit show. “I don’t think going back to Sonny would be healthy for my recovery. Being in front of a camera would make me nervous,” said the talented young singer and actress.
Apparently, Lovato also has the support of the Disney Channel. In a statement released by the company, a Disney Channel representative had the following to say:
“We respect Demi’s decision to focus fulltime on her music and not immediately return to her acting career. She is a talented young woman and our hearts are with her as she continues to take action to improve her health and bounce back from adversity.”
Fans of the hit Disney channel show, take heart – even without Lovato, the show will go on. As we previously reported, “Sonny With a Chance” is being re-designed as a sketch comedy show entitled So Random!, and will debut this June.
Lovato will also continue to record under Disney’s label Hollywood Records. Despite calling her departure from the acting world “nerve-wracking,” Lovato also says she’s “excited to see where everything goes.”
