D23: The Official Disney Fan Club officially launched its redesigned website this week, and some of the new member-exclusive content includes never-before-released photos from Walt Disney’s personal camera.
These photos were discovered by Disney archivists and include candid pictures of Walt and his family. Disney fans might find the photo of Walt’s daughters Diane and Sharon riding the merry-go-round at Griffith Park one of the most intriguing photos, as it was the carousel ride that ultimately led to the inspiration for Disneyland.
Members can view the photos and read the story behind them in the members-exclusive section of the D23 website.
Also on the D23 website, members will find Disney A to Z, an updated version of the Disney encyclopedia with more than 7,000 entries written by Dave Smith founder and Chief Archivist Emeritus of the Walt Disney Archives. Two new microsites – Disney Legends and the Walt Disney Archives – are also on the site. Disney Legends provides a deeper look at those who made significant contributions to the Disney legacy, while the Archives site shares more of The Walt Disney Company’s collections with fans.
The new D23 offers several level of membership including the new free level. Fans can join D23 at DisneyStory.com/D23. After 24 hours you can visit the D23 website and register to access members-only features. A gold membership costs $74.99 and a silver membership is $34.99.
