Over the past few years, Disney fans have been treated to a number of great events put on by Disney’s Official Fan Club D23, including a special tour of Disneyland, Destination D events, and the biggest event of all, the D23 Expo. This week, D23 announced what events members can expect in 2013, which will include both returning events and a few brand-new opportunities.
This year, D23 introduced a new “Fanniversary” tour, which brought special events to Disney fans in different cities all across the country. This year, D23 will be offering Fanniversary Celebrations once again to celebrate Disney movies, attractions, and more that are celebrating an anniversary in 2013. The events, which are currently scheduled to begin in March, will take place in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Newark, Orlando, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
Disney film fans will be able able to enjoy more advance screening opportunities of upcoming Disney films in 2013 across the country, and fans will also be able to take part in D23’s popular film series at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA. In 2013, members will be able to celebrate the 50th anniversaries of Summer Magic, The Sword in the Stone, and Sun of Flubber as part of D23’s “50 and Fabulous” series, which will take place on June 8, September 15, and April 13, respectively. Also returning will be D23’s From the Vaults film series, which brings back live-action films to the big screen. On November 16, members will be able to enjoy a special screening of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The holiday season will also bring about the return of D23’s “Disney and Dickens” event in Burbank, which gives guests some exclusive experiences at the Walt Disney Studios with a screening of Disney holiday films.
One of the most popular D23 events over the years has been the fan club’s exclusive tours of the Walt Disney Studios and Disney Archives in Burbank, CA, and members can look forward to these highly-anticipated tours returning in 2013. Tours will take place on May 4, June 1, September 14, and November 2. Members will also be able to enjoy special D23 member shopping days at Mickey’s of Glendale, the exclusive store for employees at Walt Disney Imagineering, on Saturday, April 13 and Saturday, June 8. This year will also bring some new events in Disney Stores in key locations across the country, for which D23 will partner with Disney Store to bring members an exclusive and one-of-a-kind experience.
In Walt Disney World, guests can look forward to the return of D23’s popular Sip & Stroll event in September during Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival. 2013 will also bring the arrival of Holiday Splendor, a brand-new D23 event during the holiday season in December.
Finally, D23 members and Disney fans from all over the world will head to Anaheim this summer for the next D23 Expo, which will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center on August 9-11. The Expo gives fans unparalleled opportunities and experiences from all different divisions of the Walt Disney Company, including special panels, sneak peeks at upcoming attractions and films, celebrity appearances, merchandise, and more. While tickets to the Expo are available to everyone, D23 members receive a special discount on tickets, as well as a few extra perks. Special “early bird” tickets to the Expo are available until December 31, 2012.
