Cirque du Soleil’s ‘La Nouba’ Celebrates 15th Anniversary with a Special Appearance from Mickey and Minnie

Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba is celebrating its 15th anniversary this month, and for the first time in the show’s history, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse appeared on the Cirque stage.

Prior to the Wednesday evening performance Mickey and Minnie took the stage to congratulate the artists and crew on their upcoming anniversary.

La Nouba opened on December 23, 1998, and there have been more than 7,000 shows performed for more than 9 million guests. The 65-member cast features dancers, tumblers, trapeze performers, clowns, a juggler, actors, cyclists, musicians, and more. And nearly 20 percent of the original cast still performs today.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate 15 years of La Nouba with Cirque du Soleil,” said Keith Bradford, vice president of Downtown Disney. “With its vibrant characters and diverse performers, the show remains as fresh and magical as ever and continues to enhance the Downtown Disney experience with an incredible theatrical experience our guests will always remember.”

Walt Disney World’s relationship with Cirque du Soleil goes back to the inception of La Nouba, as the show was created exclusively for Walt Disney World. Imagineers and Cirque design teams worked to create the freestanding theater, which is the first ever built for a Cirque show.
