Love is in the air this February at the Walt Disney Family Museum – as are Dalmatians and Oscars! Come and warm up with a special film, a talk, or a fun activity this month!
Screenings and Discussions
In celebration of love, puppies, and the meanest fashionista you’ll ever meet, February’s Film of the Month is 101 Dalmatians! Featuring Pongo, Perdita, and their lovable brood, this 1961 classic shows you what can happen when the dogs take matters into their own hands. The film will be showing daily at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Theater (except Tuesdays and February 12, 13, 14, and 20.) For tickets, please visit www.waltdisney.org.
On Saturday, February 12, Dalmatians lovers are in for a real treat, as the museum presents Designing a Contemporary Classic: The Art and Process of 101 Dalmatians with Floyd Norman, Andreas Dejas, and Don Iwerks. The panel of animators and experts will discuss the groundbreaking animation of this beloved classic, how the animation was unique, and why the technological advancement of the Xerox process proved to be so revolutionary. It’s a rare glimpse into the history of Walt Disney Animation. Tickets are available at www.waltdisney.org for the event, which takes place at 3 p.m. in the Theater.
Disney film buffs will not want to miss a special evening with KRON’s Jan Wahl. REEL GLAMOROUS with Jan Wahl will feature a trip down memory lane, as the famed film critic explores Disney’s Academy Award nominated- and winning-films. Watch clips of highlights, and sample wines from Silverado Vineyards and snacks from Wolfgang Puck Catering. Seats are limited for this event, so go to www.waltdisney.org to obtain tickets. The event will be held Sunday, February 20, at 3 p.m. in the Special Exhibition Hall.
Activities
On Saturday, February 13, and Sunday, February 14, guests will be able to take in special screenings of shorts, and will also have the opportunity to snap photo strips of themselves with their sweetheart to commemorate the special holiday. The fun will take place on both days from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Theater and Learning Center.
Disney Discoveries and Look Closer
On Saturday, February 12 and Sunday February 20, guests can make their own 101 Dalmatians picture frame, using recycled materials! You’ll be seeing spots for sure by the time you finish with this fun craft. The event takes place from 1:00 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Learning Center Art Studio.
The museum’s Look Closer series will take place on February 25-27, and will feature Lily Disney’s Oscar Bracelet. This special series gives guests the opportunity to learn more about featured artifacts from the museum’s gallery. The event takes place at 3 p.m. on each day listed, and will be held in Gallery 7b.
