Brian Wilson, the man behind some of the best-known tunes from the Beach Boys, has a new album hitting the stores today. “Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin” is the first of two albums to come out of a Disney Pearl and Brian Wilson record deal.
As the album name implies, Wilson covers tunes from the famous Gershwin brothers. Though George and Ira Gershwin saw their heydey in the 20’s and 30’s, their music sees a revival on this album. Besides covering such tunes as “‘S Wonderful” and “I’ve Got A Crush On You,” Wilson also takes on four songs from the well known musical “Porgy and Bess.” Two new songs, based on bits of songs by George Gershwin that never were finished, are also included in the album.
While the album is reportedly Wilson’s idea, Disney executives provided much support and encouragement.
What’s on the horizon as part two of the two-record deal between Disney and Wilson? A album covering kids tunes from the Disney repertoire. Stay tuned!
