The Walt Disney Company has reportedly purchased 14.7 acres of land adjacent to the Disneyland Resort, leading many to speculate that a park expansion is in the works.
The parcels were purchased last year and earlier this spring and although Disney is staying mum about what the purchases mean, fans are hoping for a Star Wars or Marvel-themed expansion.
Disneyland Resort has always been land locked in a way, something that can’t be said of the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
A Disney spokesperson has said that the additional land was purchased to “support additional infrastructure needs.” However, fans have noticed that the land is across from Disney California Adventure so a theme park expansion would make sense.
Additionally, Disney has committed to the city of Anaheim that the company will invest at least $1 billion in Disneyland Resort by 2024. This agreement ensures that the city won’t impose an entertainment tax for the next 30 years. And, Disney CEO Bob Iger did mention in March that there are plans for an expansion but wouldn’t go into detail.
