On Saturday, Disneyland Park hosted the world premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Thousands of Disneyland guests lined up around the “black carpet” on Main Street, U.S.A. to catch a glimpse of their favorite celebrity arrivals, and they weren’t disappointed – the star-studded event was packed with not only the cast of the film, but other celebrity attendees who were invited to see the premiere.
Additionally, the world premiere marked a moment in history as the first outdoor film premiere to be presented in 3D. Plus, all proceeds went to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, a cause which has always been close to Disney’s heart.
As the pre-screening festivities came to a close, stars made their way to New Orleans Square to pick up their 3D glasses and take a seat – steps away from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction that started the franchise. Before the screening, the film’s stars, including Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane and Geoffrey Rush were introduced on stage.
Once the film ended, Disneyland had no choice but to end the evening with a bang – with fireworks, of course!
The world premiere is only the first of events that kicks off a week full of Pirates premieres. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will also premiere in Russia May 11, and at the Cannes Film Festival May 14, before opening wide in the U.S. on May 20.
