Epcot will play host to a special group of “Healthy Living Champions” this weekend, as Disney kicks off Disney Magic of Healthy Living – the Weekend today through March 20 at Walt Disney World.
The fifty boys and girls, who range in age from 8-14, were winners of Disney Magic of Healthy Living essay contest, and will be joined by their families, as well as stars of Disney Channel shows and Disney characters in a fun-filled weekend celebrating healthy living initiatives.
The Healthy Living Champions will take part in lots of fun activities all around World Showcase throughout the weekend, billed as TRY-athalon activities! Disney stars and character coaches will lead the way through these fun and informative activities, as Champions get moving and try new things:
- TRY-athlon activity #1: “Play-Your-Way” — Champions learn all kinds of fun games from all over the world, like Chinese jump rope, South African “keep away,” “dodge ball” from Spain, and South African “keep away.”
- TRY-athlon activity #2: “Pass the Plate” — Walt Disney World chefs teach families how to prepare quick, balanced, and tasty lunch options.
- TRY-athlon activity #3: “Bouncing Around the World” — A fun game of “hide and seek” that takes place throughout the countries of Epcot World Showcase led by, among others, the Mad Hatter and Captain Jack Sparrow!
- TRY-athlon activity #4: “Garden of Possibilities” — Walt Disney World flower and garden experts will teach the kids the basics of planting a variety of vegetable gardens – including a special Italian pizza garden.
Disney stars who will act as coaches for the Champions include Kenton Duty from Shake It Up; Daniel Curtis Lee from Zeke and Luther; Jennifer Stone from Wizards of Waverly Place; Alyson Stoner of Phineas and Ferb and Camp Rock 2 fame; and Caroline Sunshine, also from Shake It Up.
Students wrote essays sharing their own ideas about how to incorporate their own fun ideas for leading healthier lifestyles at home, in school, and in their community. The essay is part of Disney’s multimedia initiative to work with parents and leaders to help raise healthy and happy kids.
Disney Magic of Healthy Living launched in September 2010, and has featured many public service announcements starring Disney personalities, as well as First Lady Michelle Obama, and also includes two websites – one for kids (Disney.com/healthyfun) and one that offers healthy living advice and resources (Family.com/healthymagic.)
