If you happen to be in the San Francisco area, you won’t want to miss all the special holiday events going on at The Walt Disney Family Museum.
For the movie lover, be sure to catch the Film of the Month, “Christmas with Walt Disney.” Produced exclusively for the Museum by acclaimed producer Don Hahn, who brought to the screen such favorites as “The Lion King” and “Beauty and the Beast,” the film includes beloved Christmas-inspired footage from “Fantasia” (The Nutcracker Suite) as well as the timeless “Pluto’s Christmas Tree.” Also in the film are scenes from Christmas television specials. But perhaps the most treasured part of the film are the rarely-seen home movies of Walt at home for the holidays. The movie offers fans a rare glimpse into how Mr. Disney celebrated Christmas at home, as well as at the studio and at Disneyland. Catch a screening of the film now through December 31 daily at 1 pm and 4 pm., excluding Tuesdays, and December 5, 11, and 25.
Saturday, December 11 is a busy day at the Museum. From 1-3 pm, visitors can tap into their inner artist by attending Disney Discoveries! Held the second Saturday of each month, Disney Discoveries! offer the opportunity to participate in activities planned by the education staff to inspire and foster family fun. This month, visitors will be making their own Christmas ornaments to celebrate the season, while learning about Walt Disney and his work.
At 3 pm, “A Tribute to Art Linkletter” will take place in the theater. Author and historian Don Peri will chat with Art’s daughter, Sharon, about life with her famous father, who was also a close friend of Walt Disney.
The “Look Closer” series will feature “”Walt’s Skis this month. Did you know that Mr. Disney was an avid skier? His love of the sport even inspired the short “The Art of Skiing,” starring Goofy. For three days, patrons can take a closer look at Walt’s own skis and explore his love for the sport.
Finally, the Museum will host “Artist’s Vocal Ensemble: A Candlelight Christmas,” on Saturday, December 18. For two performances at 4 pm and 6:15 pm, the special event will feature traditional American holiday music, and will conclude with a family-style sing along.
