Broadway’s ‘The Lion King’ Shatters Its Own Record Over Thanksgiving Weekend

Once again, Disney’s “The Lion King” reigns at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre.

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday week, the long-running production shattered the Minskoff’s previous box office record by earning $1,870,145 during the eight sold out performances held during Thanksgiving week, November 22-28.  That record significantly tops the previous one, also held by The Lion King, which was set for the week ending January 3, 2010, by more than $130,000.

And the beloved production shows no signs of slowing down.  Now in its fourteenth season on Broadway, The Lion King had its highest-grossing fiscal year ever last year – unprecedented in a show that’s been around for as long as this.

The Lion King continues to draw crowds all over the world.  Currently playing in six locations across the globe, it is the eight longest-running musical in Broadway history, and has been seen by over 54 million people worldwide since it premiered in 1997.
